Who Should Apply for Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE)?

CFE Requirements


  1. Associate Member of the ACFE in good standing.

  2. The Point System

In order to be certified, a candidate must have a minimum of two years of professional experience and 50 points.

  1. Academic Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree

(If a candidate does not have a Bachelor's degree, they may substitute two years of fraud-related professional experience for each year of academic study.)

  1. Professional Experience (2 years)

Candidates lacking two years of professional experience can still take the CFE Exam as long as they have a minimum of 40 total qualifying points.

Agree to abide by the bylaws and Code of Professional Ethics of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners.

Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) Exam Details:


The CFE Exam consists of four Sections.


  1. Financial Transactions and Fraud schemes

  2. Law

  3. Investigation

  4. Fraud Prevention and Deference


  • Number of Questions: 125 questions per Section (Total: 500)
  • Exam Time: 2 hours 5 minutes per section (Total: 8 hours)
  • Passing Percentage: 75%

Time Taken To Prepare For The CFE Exam:


A candidate has 30 days to complete all four sections of the CFE Exam. In order to pass the CFE Exam in 30 days, a candidate needs to study 15 hours a week.
